Special issue – Topic shifters in a contrastive perspective. Introduction.
Résumé
In this special issue, we thus propose a foray into the general theme of markers and discourse coherence, concentrating on topic shifters. More precisely, the papers gathered here address the question of the existence and translatability of digressive markers, a subtype or possibly a use-type of topic shifters (Lenk 1998, Pons Bordería and Estellés Arguedas 2009). These could also be depicted as topic orientation markers, a subtype of discourse management markers (Fraser 2009). Our first goal was thus to identify types of DMs which can be used to signal topic shifts.
