Abstract

The chapter investigates three main word classes in Egyptian, Semitic and Cushitic, namely verbs, nouns and adjectives. It shows the fluidity between the categories on the long term in particular the evolution of nominal constructions to verbal ones, and discusses issues about the adjective category.
