Résumé

In this paper we consider the adverb "chea" in Hiaki, a Uto-Aztecan language spoken in southern Arizona and northern Mexico. Chea has a comparative/superlative meaning 'more/most', but it also has other uses we propose to identify as 'actually', 'even', and 'really'. We argue here that the latter three uses are built off the comparative meaning, relying on an analogy between degrees and truth values.
