Abstract
In France, crack users are particularly exposed to hepatitis C transmission, through the use of glass pipes, which are responsible for a lot of burns and cracks on users’ lips and hands. They also represent transmission pathways for infectious agents. To
date, the main political measures in the harm reduction field remain focused on injection practises, without considering exposure to this specific risk. This situation led the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS) and CERMES3 to conduct
an exploratory cross-sectional study to better know the needs of this population in France, and to assess the impact of the
delivery of such a tool on the crack users’ health. This action research is carried out through an active process of collaborative
work between harm reduction associations and drug users.
