Résumé
This article examines the results of archaeological excavation carried out at Lezha and Komani, in northern Albania, and focuses on the burials and the social status of the individuals buried in the cemeteries of both sites. To this end, an analysis is presented of the communal cemeteries, the groups of isolated burials, and the tombs found in the churches of these two sites, one urban, the other rural in character. The topographical and architectural features of the tombs are examined alongside the study of grave-goods and human remains. The evidence reveals the existence of elites, whose members, starting at the end of Antiquity, implemented strategies aimed at the exaltation of their social status and the commemoration of distinguished personalities and members of individual family groups.
