Fervent revolution
Résumé
Along the road from Kathmandu to Lalitpur, one can read in red lettering on a wall close to a local university campus: “'Revolution'; our religion; 'Work', our faith; 'Change', our culture”. The slogan is signed ANNISU (R), an ultra-left student organisation which aligns itself with the UCPN (Maoist). The religious connotation of such a striking declaration reminds us that revolutions—in particular the French and later communist ones—have not totally severed links with the sacred.
