"Balmas", "caunas", "tutas" ... and "crusèls" : Some occitan names for 'cave'.
Balmas, caunas, tutas ... et crusèls : Quelques noms occitans de la caverne.
Résumé
Words related to earth relief are easily considered as substratic and immemorial. Although part ot this vocabulary can reasonably be assigned such an ascend, this type of interpretation should not be systematized. In order to discuss the case of occitan "crusèl", one of many names referring to some type of cave or cavity, this paper replaces it within the global Occitan geolinguistic pictures of the terms designating a ‘cave’ (as “balma,” “cauna” and more).
