IRCAN
IRCAN, created on January 1, 2012 and headed by Pr Eric Gilson, is a joint research unit under the auspices of Université Côte d'Azur, CNRS and Inserm. IRCAN has established a partnership with the A. Lacassagne Cancer Center and Nice University Hospital. Research at IRCAN is resolutely innovative, seeking to understand the biological mechanisms linking aging and cancer, with particular attention paid to the role played by stress, whether environmental or lifestyle-related. New tests for prevention and diagnosis, and new drugs, are hoped for, in order to better treat cancers of different tissue origins, and age-related diseases such as certain forms of diabetes, renal failure and cardiovascular disease. This is the first time that fundamental questions of modern biology have been brought into line with a real social and public health problem posed by the world's ageing population.
