Electrochemical realkalisation of carbonated reinforced concrete using impressed current or sacrificial anodes 2.5 years durability

Résumé

The aim of this study is to assess the durability of the efficiency of an electrochemical realkalisation treatment applied on artificially carbonated reinforced concrete slabs. Realkalisation based on impressed current as well as sacrificial anodes was tested. The slabs were firstly stored in the laboratory for 18 months after treatment and then they were exposed for 12 additional months to natural ageing. Analytical characterizations (phenolphthalein and thymolphthalein color indicators, quantitative pH, SEM combined to EDS) and electrochemical characterizations (rest potential, linear polarisation resistance and impedance) were performed, before realkalisation and until 30 months after treatment in order to determine the efficiency of the two treatments, their eventual side effects and their durability.
