Electrodeposited ZnO-Ni/Ti nanocomposite catalysts for sulfite oxidation

Résumé

This study presents the electrochemical deposition approach used to generate Ni thin films on a titanium electrode covered with ZnO nanoparticles aiming to improve the sulfite's electrocatalytic oxidation. The influence of different electrodeposition parameters on the growth of ZnO-Ni/Ti films has been studied. SEM and EDX elemental analyses were employed to characterize the morphology and composition of these modified electrodes, while their topography was examined using AFM. Electrochemical techniques including cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were used to assess the electrocatalytic activity. Deposits containing Ni particles demonstrated superior stability for sulfite electrooxidation and exhibited higher catalytic activity across a broad sulfite concentration range (1 to 8 mM), with excellent limits of detection (LOD) and sensitivity, measured at 11.34 µM and 73.75 µA mM -1 cm -2 , respectively. The effects of endogenous interfering species on the electrocatalytic response were also examined, revealing the selectivity of ZnO-Ni/Ti electrode for sulfites oxidation. The application of the ZnO-Ni/Ti biosensor for real sample analysis, such as vinegar, dried apricots, and tap water was demonstrated using chronoamperometric detection. The increase in current remained proportional to successive sulfites additions. Experimental results showed that compared to Ti, ZnO/Ti or Ni/Ti, ZnO-Ni/Ti exhibited significantly enhanced electrochemical responses. This improvement is primarily attributed to the synergistic effect between ZnO and Ni particles.
