Abstract

Candida albicans, one of the predominant opportunist pathogen yeast, is a commensal organism that colonizes the mucosal surfaces of the oral and vaginal cavities and the digestive tract. Candida albicans infections extend from superficial mycosis to life-threatening opportunistic bloodstream infections, which can develop into disseminated candidiasis, principally in patients with compromised immunity (Calderone, 2002; Mavor, Thewes, & Hube, 2005; Odds, 1988). A striking feature of C. albicans is its ability to grow in various morphological forms, including unicellular budding yeasts, filamentous pseudohyphae and true hyphae, and some less common forms, such as chlamydospores and opaque cells (Berman, 2006;
