Biosensors in Diabetes : how to get the most out of evolution and transpose it into a signal
Résumé
Biosensors in Diabetes: how to get the most out of evolution and transpose it into a signal ? Pancreatic islets are natural sensors of the insulin need. Based on that property, we have developed a novel type of hybrid bioelectronic sensor ina multidisciplinary approach between diabetologists, biologists, and microelectronics. Electronics circuits sense and process in real time the islets electrical activity, and process it to extract markers stating for changes in islets physiology. They can be used as indicators of islets quality in transplant procedures, or to detect the islets response to changes in nutrients (including glucose) and hormone levels. We expect to use the bio-sensor and associated electronics to perform closed-loop controlled insulin delivery for diabetes.
