When you love your enemy: poetic duels about Mariam al-Mansouri ‫شيالت‬ ‫مجنون‬ ‫مريم‬

Résumé

The Paper presents 8 Yemeni poems dedicated to the female Emirati Pilot Mariam Al-Mansouri who participated in the bombing of several Yemeni cities. Those poems were performed between 2015-2016 during the military operations of the Saudi-led coalition against the Houthis. These poems represent different poetic and musical genres, particularly the musical sheila genre. They were recorded as video and posted on youtube and reached a large audience. These poems testify of the maintenance of a long-standing literary tradition of political poetic performances known as bad' wa-jiwab. The content of the poems mixe traditional love poetic vocabulary and political critics in favour or against the military coalition
